This report provides a description of activities focused on the importance of geoscience information for the implementation of closed-loop geoexchange systems in Alberta carried out at Alberta Geological Survey in 2007 and 2008.

The report includes

1. a brief introduction into geoexchange technology and the status of the industry in Alberta;

2. an assessment of the value of and need for geoscience information;

3. the results of a thermal conductivity survey, drilling and thermal testing of surficial and shallow bedrock materials in the Edmonton area; and

4. an analysis of the relevance of geology for the operation of a closed-loop geoexchange system.
