Alberta Oil Sands Core Descriptions

This interactive map displays annotated core descriptions and geophysical logs from the oil sands areas in Alberta where Alberta Geological Survey staff and contractors have logged core from the early 1990s to the late 2000s. Core descriptions were logged in different formats, depending upon the timing of the study as well as the purpose of the work. Some core logging was associated with detailed facies characterization on a regional scale, whereas other cores were logged to confirm stratigraphic log picks for regional correlation of geophysical logs in the subsurface.
